Paralympic Gold Medallist set to make waves at Poole Harbour Boat Show

April 24, 2015

Poole Harbour Commissioners is pleased to announce that Paralympic Gold Medallist, Helena Lucas MBE, will make a special guest appearance at this year’s Poole Harbour Boat Show.

Helena will attend the inaugural free boat show, which takes place on Poole Quay and at PHC’s award-winning marina Poole Quay Boat Haven, on Sunday May 10 and meet with visitors of the event.

Helena is Britain’s first-ever Paralympic sailing gold medallist and she will  be on the ‘Sunseeker Sessions’ live music stage from 11am to talk about her dazzling nautical career and of course showcase her gold medal.

She made history at the London 2012 Paralympic Games after becoming the first ever female winner of the Paralympic class and is now training for the Rio Paralympics in 2016.

Poole Harbour Commissioners chief executive, Jim Stewart said: “We are so excited that Helena will have a presence at our first Poole Harbour Boat Show. With an unparalleled record, her achievements have been part of a monumentally successful undertaking for Team GB.

“We wish her all the best for her attempts for a second gold medal at Rio in 2016, and are thrilled to welcome her on-board as our special guest at the Poole Harbour Boat Show 2015.”

Helena added: “I look forward to joining PHC and the exhibitors of the Poole Harbour Boat Show. It’s such an exciting time for Poole, with the port being internationally recognised as host of the international Maritime Day in 2017, and there are so many exciting events taking place over the weekend, it’s a real chance to be immersed in what promises to be a spectacular weekend.”

Poole Harbour Boat Show takes place on the weekend of May 9 and 10 and will incorporate a variety of marine-related businesses, family focused entertainment and other elements associated with a regional boat show.
